Viswa Kala Kendra was established in 1963 by Guru Gopinath and is now
affiliated to Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Academy. Though it was started with
the purpose to give training in Kerala Nadanam and vocal music, later
the centre has restricted its training in Music only. The classes for
Kerala nadanam are given in the Guru Gopinath Natana Gramam, which is a
collaborative venture of Viswa Kala Kendra.

Kathakali mudras are used in Kerala Natanam. These mudras are based on
the 'Hastha Lakshana Deepika' (which differs slightly from the mudras
used in Bharata Natyam which is based on the 'Abhinaya Darpana').
